Weather Turns Unstable in North India, Rain Cools Temperatures

The monsoon-like conditions have returned to Delhi-NCR and other parts of North India, with thunderstorms and light showers recorded late at night. Himalayan regions experienced gusty winds and scattered rainfall, bringing down local temperatures and offering relief from heat spells.

In Uttar Pradesh, cloud cover and strong winds are active across several districts, indicating the possibility of scattered showers in the coming hours.

Severe Heat in South India Eases with Rainfall

Several states in South India, including parts of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Karnataka, have been grappling with intense summer heat. However, overnight rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms brought momentary relief, lowering temperatures and improving air quality.

Meanwhile, East and Northeast India are also witnessing volatile weather, with storm and heavy rain warnings now in place.

IMD Issues Thunderstorm and Rain Alert for These States

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the following regions are on alert for the next 2–3 hours:

  • North India: Northern Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Southwest Rajasthan

  • East and Central India: Parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, South Gangetic West Bengal

  • South India: North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra

  • Northeast: Sikkim, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh

In Odisha, heavy rainfall is likely in Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Rayagada within the next few hours. Wind speeds in these areas could reach 60–70 km/h, accompanied by lightning, hail, or localized storms.

Impact & Preparedness Measures

Authorities have urged residents in the affected regions to avoid outdoor travel during alerts, secure loose objects, and stay updated with official IMD advisories. Power outages, tree falls, and waterlogging are potential risks in urban zones.

The sudden shift in weather is being monitored closely, with emergency services on standby in vulnerable districts.
