AMBALA: A tragic incident struck the Moti Nagar locality in Ambala City, when the roof of a kutcha house collapsed suddenly, killing three members of a family—a husband, wife, and their five-year-old son. The tragedy occurred on Tuesday afternoon while the family was having lunch under the roof, which was supported by wooden beams.
The deceased have been identified as Javed Ali (35), his wife Anu (32), and their son Noor Mohammad (5). Fortunately, their 7-year-old daughter, Khatija, survived as she was playing outside at the time of the incident.
According to eyewitnesses, the roof’s supporting girder gave way and collapsed with a loud crash, burying the family beneath the debris. Neighbours immediately rushed to help and pulled them out, rushing them to the Civil Hospital in Ambala City. Sadly, doctors declared all three dead on arrival.
As news of the tragedy spread, Ambala City Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Darshan Kumar arrived at the hospital, took stock of the situation, and ordered the bodies to be sent for post-mortem examination. Local police have initiated necessary proceedings and are investigating the cause of the collapse.
The family, originally from Ambala, lived modestly and earned a living through small-scale street vending. Only the couple’s elderly mother and young daughter survive. BJP leader Saddam Hussain, who visited the site, mentioned that the elderly mother had been away during the incident. Relatives in Karnal have been informed, and further action will be taken once they arrive.
“Giving information about the incident, SDM Darshan Singh said that he received a report that a roof had collapsed on a family in the Moti Nagar area of the city. Following this, the entire administration reached the spot, rescued the people trapped under the debris, and admitted them to the hospital, he said.
Providing further details, medical officer Dr Aditi said, “Three people who were trapped under the collapsed roof were brought to the hospital, but they had already died. All three bodies have been kept in the mortuary. As soon as the police complete the paperwork, post-mortem examinations will be conducted and the bodies will be handed over to their families.”
