Chhattisgarh police Thursday arrested retired IAS officer Niranjan Das in connection with the alleged Rs 2,500-crore liquor scam, Amresh Mishra, head of state's ACB and EOW , told TOI.
Das, who was commissioner and excise secretary of the state before retiring in 2023, is accused of a key role in the state's biggest such scam. Cops allege he took hefty kickbacks to enable sale of unaccounted liquor through state-run shops, manipulated excise officers' transfers, tweaked tenders to benefit select firms, and backed a flawed policy that favoured the syndicate, Mishra said.
