BHOPAL: A 16-year-old village girl from MP's Singrauli district, which has a female literacy rate of just 48.5%, has bagged a perfect 100% in Class 10 state board exams.
Impressed by Pragya's Jaiswal's 500/500 marks, CM Mohan Yadav said: "In our state, there are not only 'ladli bahnen' but also 'ladli betiyan'.
Pragya, whose parents are govt schoolteachers, lives in Nigari village in Singrauli's Sarai tehsil, 645km from Bhopal. Her achievement has come as a beacon of hope for the district, which is way behind even the state's female literacy average of 59.2% (2011 Census).

Deputy sarpanch of Nigari, Govind Jaiswal, said that Pragya, 16, has brought nationwide recognition to his village. "After Pragya's inspiring achievement, we have decided that the panchayat will focus more on girls' education . We want govt to build a girls' school here," he said.
In her conversation with TOI, Pragya said thaty she expected good marks in all subjects, but achieving perfect scores exceeded her expectations. She studied in a private school in Nigari, which is only up to Class 10.
Asked for the secret of her success, Pragya said: "Being focused from the very first day, and paying equal attention to everything taught in class worked for me. No advice given by teachers is small or big. Every bit is important. I also prepared extensive notes. Everything came together in a good way. I feel blessed for the support of my parents at every moment. It worked like magic for me." Pragya aims to become an IAS officer. Anurag Kumar Sahu from her school also scored an impressive 99.2%.
Pragya's father, Vinay Kumar Jaiswal, is trying to get her enrolled in a different institution for Class 12. "Here, she cannot get the education she deserves. I am making arrangements to send her outside," said Jaiswal.
Pragya's younger brother is a cadet at Sainik School-Rewa - the institution that gave the country the current Army and Navy chiefs, General Upendra Dwivedi and Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi.
