Janhvi Kapoor shares men dismiss women's emotions with 'is it that time of the month;' says "Nuclear war would break out if men had periods"

Janhvi Kapoor, a prominent figure in the Indian film industry, has not only made a name for herself through her acting but has also spoken out on crucial societal issues, particularly regarding the treatment of women's emotions. In recent discussions, she expressed her frustration with the casual dismissal of women's feelings, often linked to their menstrual cycles.

In an interview with Hauterfly, Janhvi Kapoor discussed the casual way people often use the question, "Is it that time of the month?" to belittle women's opinions. She explained, “Agar main jhagda karne ki koshish kar rahi hu ya meri point ko saamne rakhne ki koshish kar rahi hu aur aap bolte ho, ‘Is it that time of the month?’ then, like, take a hike. But agar aap sach mein humdardi dikha rahe ho, ki, ‘Do you need a minute, is it that time of the month?’ then yeah, more often than not, you do need a minute, because the way our hormones are off the charts, the pain we go through, that genuine consideration is always welcome.”

Double standards between men and women
Janhvi further highlighted the difference in how men and women experience hormonal changes and the physical challenges that come with them. She said, “But that condescending gaze and tone is… because I assure you, men won’t be able to bear this pain and mood swings for even a minute. Pata nahi kaunsa nuclear war ho jaata agar mardon ko periods hote (Who knows what kind of nuclear war would break out if men had periods).” Her comments pointed to the frequent trivialization of women's emotions and stressed the need for more empathy and respect.

Janhvi Kapoor's opinions highlighted a prevalent problem: how menstruation is frequently used by society to cast doubt on women's moral character and restrict their feelings. Her remarks appeal for more awareness and a change from mockery to true support.
