Ahmedabad: A major hit and run accident occurred near Vikas Estate in Bapunagar, where a car hit three to four pedestrians, critically injuring three people, including a child.
"The car, registered in the name of Ghanshyam Modhera, was reportedly handed over to his friend Piyush Rathod of Sarkhej. Rathod then gave the vehicle to his brother-in-law's son, Rahul Parmar, 20, a resident of Bapunagar. Parmar was driving the car when the incident occurred," said a police official.
While driving through the busy stretch in Bapunagar, Parmar lost control over the vehicle and hit several pedestrians. Among the injured was Ashok Parmar, 52, a local resident. The car also rammed into a pan shop.
Fearing public anger, the driver abandoned the car and fled from the spot. Locals quickly gathered and helped shift the injured, including the child, to Shardaben Hospital in Saraspur.
Traffic police from the H Division reached the location shortly after the accident and initiated an investigation. The process to register an FIR under charges of rash driving and causing grievous hurt was initiated against Rahul Parmar.
Cops are searching for the absconding driver.
