IMSc to conduct summit on evolution of universe from July 28 to Aug 1

Send Push
Chennai: Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc) is planning to conduct a national meet on cosmology titled "Cosmic Connections: Bridging the Early and Late Universe" from July 28 to Aug 1.

The discussions will cover the early universe (when the age of the Universe was less than 400000 years),intermediate Universe (between 400000 years to 1 billion years) and the late Universe (more than 1 billion years)

"The entire evolution of the universe will be discussed. The aim is to bring together researchers working in cosmology," said Dhiraj Kumar Hazra, faculty member of IMSc and convener of the meeting.

The topics expected to be discussed include inflation, cosmic microwave background (CMB), primordial gravitational waves (related to the early universe), cosmic dawn, reionization, and insights from the James Webb Space Telescope (related to the intermediate universe), as well as dark energy, large-scale structure, and current cosmological tensions (related to the late universe).

The objective of the meeting is to foster collaboration within the Indian cosmology community and strengthen the country's participation in major international surveys and future missions.

"The meeting will include a discussion session on charting ‘India's Cosmic Odyssey: From Earth to the Edge of the Universe' on July 31. It will be open to the public and will focus on India's strategic involvement in current and future cosmology missions and proposals, specifically, Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory–India (LIGO-India), Square Kilometre Array Observatory (SKAO), and Exploring Cosmic History and Origin (ECHO) by CMBBHARAT," Dhiraj Kumar Hazra said.

"It will answer questions on general physics, astronomy, and how these astronomical missions can help India's technical prowess and engineering sectors," he added. The meeting and the discussion session will be live-streamed on the IMSc YouTube channel.
