Limescale and rust can harbour bacteria, creating an environment that promotes growth and reduces the overall hygiene of your shower. However, the appliance experts at have shared there is a very simple way to deep clean a shower head, as all you need are two ingredients in your kitchen cupboard.

The expert said: "One of the most effective alternatives to vinegar is a baking soda paste. Baking soda is a natural abrasive that helps remove mineral deposits and grime."
They added: "Lemon juice is another excellent natural cleaner. Its acidic properties help break down mineral deposits and leave a fresh scent."
White vinegar is often the best way to get rid of limescale, but many people are weary of using it on a shower head as it could damage the rubber seals.
Lemon juice is acidic like white vinegar but much gentler so can break down the mineral build up from limescale and rust without harming the shower.
Baking soda is also a great natural alternative as it is abrasive and will loosen the dirt inside the shower head to make them easier to get rid of.
All you need to to is mix baking soda with a little lemon juice until it forms a thick paste.
Spread the paste all over the shower head, focusing on areas which looked stained.
Leave the paste for 15 to 20 minutes to give it time to break down any build up and then gently scrub at the nozzles with a tooth brush.
Your shower head should be sparkling clean, without stains or mould, without much effort.
However, if it is particularly dirty then fill a plastic bag with lemon juice, attach it to the shower head with a rubber band and then leave it to soak for 15 minutes.
Once the time is up, carefully remove the plastic bag and mix baking soda with a little bit of water. Apply the paste over the nozzles and scrub it to get rid of any grime.
Rinse the shower head to wash away any clogged-up debris, and it should be cleaner with a much better water pressure.
