made a four-word remark about his sister-in-law, , which spoke volumes about her character. The Duke of Sussex revealed for the first time when she was still dating Prince William in his memoir, Spare.
as she was "carefree, sweet, and kind". He also revealed that he enjoyed making her laugh, saying that his own personality seemed to click well with her "heavily disguised silly side". The prince wrote: "I liked his new girlfriend. She was carefree, sweet, kind. She'd done a gap year in Florence, knew about photography, art. And clothes. She loved clothes. Her name was Kate."
He added: "I liked seeing Kate laugh. Better yet, I liked making her laugh. And I was quite good at it. My transparently silly side connected with her heavily disguised silly side.
"Whenever I worried that Kate was going to be the one to take Willy from me, I consoled myself with thoughts of all our future laughing fits together, and I told myself how great everything would be when I had a serious girlfriend who could laugh along with us."
Elsewhere, Harry praised Kate again, saying that after her marriage to Prince William in 2011, he thought she was like the sister he never had.
He said: "I loved my new sister-in-law, I felt she was more sister than in-law, the sister I'd never had and always wanted, and I was pleased that she'd forever be standing by Willy's side.
"She was a good match for my older brother. They made each other visibly happy, and therefore I was happy too."
But Harry's relationship with Kate seems to have turned frosty since his departure from the Royal Family in 2020, when he moved to the US with his wife, Meghan Markle.
In 2021, the Sussexes gave an interview to Oprah Winfrey, where Meghan claimed that the Princess of Wales made her cry over a bridesmaids fitting with Princess Charlotte ahead of the Sussex wedding in 2018. In his memoir, Prince Harry also made claims about the difficult relationship between his sister-in-law and wife.
The royals have never commented on these claims.
