Meghan Markle opened up about her new Netflix deal at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit 2025 on Tuesday. The Duchess of Sussex compared her Netflix partnership to the Obamas' own deal for their production company Higher Ground, adding the new contract offered her and Harry "flexibility" and the chance to "shop content that might not be the right fit for Netflix".
The 44-year-old started by explaining: "My husband and I were in an overall deal with Netflix then, not dissimilar to Higher Ground and the Obamas' deal." During their previous contract with Netflix, Harry and Meghan released a number of projects which received some pretty scathing reviews from critics. As a result, fans expected the streaming giant to reduce the terms with the couple, but Meghan was quick to boast that the deal is anything but disappointing. She said: "Once that had come to its term, the extension of it - which was such an incredible sign of the strength of our partnership - was now being in a first-look deal."
She then stressed: "It gives us flexibility to go to our partners first, then at the same time, shop content that might not be the right fit for Netflix but has a home somewhere else."
