A "thrilling" drama directed by an Oscar winner has arrived on Netflix in the UK, and one fan hailed it as a "masterpiece". A House of Dynamite hit cinemas in early October before being added to the streaming platform today, and tells the fictional story of a US government responding to an intercontinental balistic missle (ICBM) being launched towards the country by an unknown enemy.
The film imagines the breathless minutes and weighty decisions that would result if America and The West was faced its greatest fear - nuclear armageddon. It was directed by Kathryn Bigelow, who previously one two Academy Awards including Best Director for The Hurt Locker (2008), and written by Noah Oppenheim.
The movie features a star-studded ensemble cast including Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Gabriel Basso, Jared Harris, Tracy Letts, Anthony Ramos, Moses Ingram, Jonah Hauer-King, Greta Lee, and Jason Clarke.
One fan on Rotten Tomatoes wrote: "The film is a masterpiece. You are kept enthralled for the entire film. You are left wondering what happens! Excellent acting by all."
Another wrote: "Thrilling, gripping and tense! What a ride Kathryn Bigelow takes us on yet again with her fantastic direction and pace of the story.
"Rebecca Ferguson & Idris Elba are fantastic as well as many of the cast. Great movie and hits you hard as the end credits role."
A third added: "Oscar nominations in multiple categories for sure. Highly realistic and fast-paced, the suspense never lets up.
"Superb directing, cinematography, editing and score as well as acting - it's a "must see" movie that is timely and relevant."
The film is Certified Fresh on the website, with an 80% score on its Tomatometer (which reflects the percentage of approved critics who have given it a positive review).
It also has a decent 76% based on the response of general audiences.
The film has a 15 certificate and features strong language and threat, so may not be for everyone.
