new documentary - Madeleine McCann: Unseen Evidence - explores the alleged fresh evidence in the case. Shown for the first time on Wednesday (7 May), it sparked a flurry of viewer reactions the majority all saying the same thing.
The programme began by going over the facts of the case, explaining that Madeleine was just three years old when she vanished in 2007 during a family holiday in Praia da Luz, Portugal. At the time, she had been sleeping in a holiday apartment with her younger twin siblings while her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, dined nearby at the Ocean Club restaurant. Her mother discovered she was missing when she returned to the apartment around 10:00 p.m.
The case quickly became one of the most high-profile missing persons investigations in modern history, drawing global media attention and significant funding over the years. Despite intensive searches and ongoing speculation, Madeleine has never been found, and her fate remains unknown.

The new documentary offers a fresh perspective, following an investigation by The Sun that claims to reveal material potentially linking the case's prime suspect, German national Christian Brueckner, to the crime.
It delves into the discovery of a hard drive found at a derelict factory once owned by Brueckner. The device reportedly contains material that investigators believe may indicate Madeleine is deceased.
Brueckner, a convicted sex offender, has long been considered a key suspect by German authorities, who allege he killed Madeleine shortly after her disappearance. He is currently serving a sentence for the 2005 rape of an American woman in the same area, though he was acquitted of other related charges in 2023. Unless new charges are successfully brought, he could be released as early as September 2025.
Only minutes into the broadcast, viewers took to social media to share their reactions, with many expressing disbelief that, nearly two decades later, the case continues to generate new leads and documentaries.
One user wrote on X: "This is all circumstantial evidence. Nothing new. He is a predator but nothing linking him to Madeline #MadelineMccan #Channel4" Another person agreed, writing: "So far in the #channel4 documentary about #MadeleineMccann, everything pointing to Christian Brueckner is circumstantial? There's no direct evidence to the McCann case?"
Someone else penned: "Madeleine McCann: The Unseen Evidence. Not much evidence is it? I mean, lots of evidence that Christian B is a wrong 'un, which we knew anyway, but nothing linking him to Madeleine." A fourth user wondered: "50mins in and im still waiting for the new evidence."
Madeleine McCann: The Unseen Evidence is now available to stream on Channel 4.
