BBC Ambulance fans in tears after show star's sudden death aged 34 'Absolutely tragic'

Fans who tuned into the latest episode of BBC Ambulance were left in tears after the show closed with an update about one of their ambulance practitioners. Ambulance is a documentary series that follows the "life and death decisions on the frontline". The BBC One format showcases their work "from control rooms to the crews on the street". During Tuesday's edition producers shared a heartbreaking message at the end of the episode as the BAFTA-winning series headed to Yorkshire for the first time, following paramedics across the cities, towns and remote villages of England's largest county.

As the episode wrapped up it was announced on-screen that Ambulance Practitioner, Steph Haselden, had sadly died aged 34. She was admitted to hospital in October but died last month following a short illness. In an emotional update it said on-screen, "In October 2025, Ambulance Practitioner Steph was admitted to hospital and died after a short illness." In a follow up message they shared a photo of Steph and it simply read: "In memory of Steph Haselden 1991-2025." Fans offerred their condolences, as one viewer cried, "absolutely tragic".

The NHS North East & Yorkshire's official X account also paid tribute to Steph in an emotional statement.

They wrote: "Tonight's episode of BBC #Ambulance is dedicated to Ambulance Practitioner Steph who sadly passed away in October 2025 after a short illness."

BBC viewers flocked to comment on the post as one penned: "That was a sad end to tonight's episode. Steph was so young. Sending love to her family, friends & colleagues. Rest easy Steph."

Another penned: "Wow...completely stunned by the ending....thoughts for her family, friends and colleagues who work so hard for very little recognition...Thank You."

"Absolutely tragic. Such a wonderful woman. Condolences to her family, friends and colleagues," a third commented.

While a fourth person remarked: "This is such sad news. The partnership these 2 ladies had was lovely to watch."

A fifth added: "Massive shock when I saw this. What a lovely girl and so kind with all the patients. RIP."
