Jimmy Kimmel's return slammed as a 'double standard' by axed Roseanne Barr

Roseanne Barr slammed the return of Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, after it was axed because of his recent comments. The presenter's comments surrounding right-wing influencer Charlie Kirk's death led to ABC 'indefinitely' axing his long-running show from their schedule.

Celebrities and politicians were quick to slam the decision and made claims of government censorship. Disney reportedly lost billions of dollars after fans cancelled their subscriptions in solidarity. The value of The Walt Disney Company's stock between September 17 and early on Tuesday fell by 2.39%, the equivalent of $4.99bn of its market value.

Upon his return to his show, he told viewers during his opening monologue: "Our government cannot be allowed to control what we do and do not say on television, and we have to stand up to it.

"I’ve been hearing a lot about what I need to say and do tonight, and the truth is, I don’t think what I have to say is going to make much of a difference. If you like me, you like me; if you don’t, you don’t; I have no illusions about changing anyone’s mind."

While his audience cheered for him and fans praised his speech, some were less than impressed with his return, as they dubbed it a 'double standard'.

Roseanne Barr was axed from her Roseanne revival in 2018 because of her tweet saying former Obama official Valerie Jarrett, who is Black, was the product of the "Muslim Brotherhood" and "Planet of the Apes".

She later tweeted: "I apologise to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me, my joke was in bad taste."

The 72-year-old was slammed over her comment and now spoke out against Kimmel, claiming her 'whole life' was ruined.

"[There was] no forgiveness and all of my work was stolen and [I was] called a racist for time and eternity, for racially misgendering someone. It just shows how they think. It’s a double standard," she told NewsNation.

"I’ve been erased from history, from the history of feminism, which that cracks me up. I’m never mentioned in anything about women who are pioneers in media. I’m never mentioned in anything anymore."

She claimed the people whose careers she helped launch no longer discuss her, “especially when they talk about censorship, which that cracks me up.”

Roseanne went on to praise Nexstar for continuing to preempt Kimmel’s show. She added: "I just love independent media. They’ve broken away from the big, you know, how can I say this? They decentralised information, and that’s what America wants and needs."
