The Puppet Master: Hunting the Ultimate conman
Released in 2022, The Puppet Master: Hunting the Ultimate conman boasts a rare 100% Rotten Tomatoes score.
The three-part series tracks the hunt for a con artist, who pretended to be a British spy to steal from his victims.
A synopsis reads: "A man masquerading as a British spy manipulates and steals from his victims, leaving ruined families in his wake."
Viewers are not only taken along for the search, the show also delves into different accounts of the so-called "ultimate" conman's deception.
Upon streaming the series, one stunned Rotten Tomatoes user said: "This is probably the craziest and most unbelievable documentary I've watched on Netflix (and that's saying something)."
Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never HappenedThis Emmy-nominated documentary gave birth to a wave of internet memes, but its subject matter is far from comedic.
Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened landed on Netflix in 2019. It dives into the behind-the-scenes failings that led to the 2017 Fyre Festival's cancellation.
The music festival was scheduled to take place in The Bahamas over two weekends in April and May, and promised luxury dining, high-grade accommodation and popular musical acts.
But attendees arrived to find little food and disastrous accommodation, which led to the event being called off. Fyre's failings later landed its organiser in prison for wire fraud.
Netflix's synopsis reads: "The Fyre Festival was billed as a luxury music experience on a posh private island, but it failed spectacularly in the hands of a cocky entrepreneur."
The 90-minute film boasts a stellar 93% Rotten Tomatoes score and received rave reviews from critics and casual viewers alike.
One IMDb user, who was not overly familiar with the story, was impressed by the documentary's depth.
They wrote: "I'd heard about Fyre in the media but didn't know any of the detail. This doc provides lots of behind the scenes footage, insightful interviews and tells the story really well."
Con Mum
The most recent documentary on this list is Con Mum, which landed on Netflix in March.
This true-crime film tells the story of a London-based chef Graham whose life spirals out of control after reconnecting with his birth mother.
What starts as a heart-warming reunion ends with the Londoner being conned out of thousands.
Netflix's synopsis reads: "A chef's life is upended when a jet-setting, champagne-sipping, hotel-hopping woman claims to be his mother. This documentary reveals the untold story."
One Rotten Tomatoes reviewer was moved by the film, and penned: "Edge of your seat stuff and remarkable in the power of Graham being able to carry on when it would be easy to lose the plot...wasn't prepared for the heartbreak at the end."
