Looks like Bollywood star Akshay Kumar is finally set to have a hit in the cinemas after over two years, as his latest release, Kesari Chapter 2, has been raking in promising numbers at the box office. After a slow start, the film saw an uptick on Saturday as it earned Rs 9.50 crore.
Kesari Chapter 2, which released on April 18, opened with a decent Rs 7.75 crore at the box office, but thanks to the positive word of mouth, it saw a 26 per cent jump on its second day. On the film's first Saturday, it earned Rs 9.50 crore, and with that, the total box office collection has now surged to Rs 17.25 crore.
With the current trend and positive sentiment for the film in the market, Kesari Chapter 2 is easily expected to register double-digit figures on Sunday, and a Rs 100 crore collection can be expected from the film.
Kesari Chapter 2 also stars R Madhavan and Ananya Panday in key roles, and all the three actors are being praised for their stoic performances.
The film has been witnessing a decent occupancy in theatres and it has also been termed as a "must watch spectacle" by netizens.
For those unversed, Kesari Chapter 2 is set in the aftermath of the gutwrenching Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919 when British officers open fired at the venue, killing hundreds of innocent men, women and children. The incident is termed as one of the darkest chapters in India's history. The film shows Akshay Kumar essay the role of advocate C Sankaran Nair, who had sued the British government and had accused the Crown of 'genocide' post the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
