Where is Tanot Mata Temple located?

Tanot Mata Temple is located near the India-Pakistan border, about 120 km from Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. This temple is located in the middle of the wilderness spread in the Thar Desert, where tourists have to pass through the desert area to reach. It is a popular belief that Tanot Mata is the Kuldevi of the Charan community of Jaisalmer-Barmer region. Tanot Mata is considered to be a form of Hinglaj Mata. This temple is dedicated to the incarnation of Mata Avad Mata (Durga).

Miracle seen in Indo-Pak war

During the 1965 war, the Pakistani army heavily bombed the Tanot area. During this time, the Pakistani army dropped about 3,000 bombs on this temple complex, but it did not affect the temple. At the same time, more than 450 bombs did not even explode.

After this, in the 1971 Indo-Pak war, the Pakistani army also attacked this area, but the temple remained completely safe once again. The Indian Army and the local people consider this to be the grace of Tanot Mata. Even today, the unexploded bombs of that time are displayed in the temple complex, which testify to this miracle.

Maintenance of the temple by the Indian Army

Since the 1965 war, the Tanot Mata temple has been managed and maintained by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF). BSF jawans serve the mother here and take care of the security and cleanliness of the temple premises. Every year on the occasion of Navratri, a grand fair is organized here, in which a large number of devotees gather.
