Guwahati: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state government is concerned about the recent hobnobbing between Bangladesh and Pakistan and Security agencies are alerted.

Sarma while talking to media persons on Thursday said, “We are also concerned about Bangladesh and the recent hobnobbing between Bangladesh and Pakistan, we have alerted the security agencies. Assam is vigilant post Pahalgam attack. We are asking the security agencies to remain vigilant.”

Assam MP stayed in Pakistan for 15 days
Without taking the name of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said one parliamentarian from the state had stayed in Pakistan for 15 days without intimation to the Indian government or state government.

The Assam CM and the BJP have been attacking Gogoi, the Deputy Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, over his British wife Elizabeth Colburn’s alleged connection with Pakistan’s spy agency ISI.

Sarma said, “An important functionary of Congress had stayed in Pakistan. He had gone through Attari border to avoid attention. The matter is under investigation by SIT. We have received important evidence that the wife of the MP used to receive a salary from Pakistan for three years while she was working in Delhi. The staff of the organisations were examined and they have confessed, we have a statement. In the month of June-July the SIT will meet the MP and his family and a report will be submitted by September.”

Sarma said that the MP has made a dubious trip to Nepal, at that point of time ISI was very active in Nepal. “ We have examined that there was no public engagement, mostly a clandestine visit. We will join the dots to see if the visit of Nepal and Pakistan had any connection or it was two independent visits. This matter of national security report will be placed before the people by September this year.”

Sarma on Wednesday said, “He also has a relationship with the Pakistan embassy. Many more information will come to light. The people of the state will see with evidence how the son of a proud father went against the nation, he added.

Last month, the chief minister had said the government may seek help from agencies like Interpol in investigating the alleged interference of Pakistani national Ali Tauqeer Sheikh, who is claimed to have links with Gogoi’s British wife Elizabeth Colburn, in India’s internal affairs.

Sheikh, an advisor of the Pakistan Planning Commission and a former colleague of Colburn, was charged under various sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhtia (BNS) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
