It was great news for John Cena fans as the WWE legend won the missing piece in his cabinet. The 48-year-old, who is in the twilight of his wrestling career, defeated Dominik Mysterio to clinch the Intercontinental Championship. It was his first Intercontinental title.

As a result, Cena became a Grand Slam Champion. To be one, one must win the WWE Championship, Intercontinental Championship, United States Championship and Tag Team Championship. Before winning the Intercontinental Championship, Cena won the WWE Championship 17 times, United States Championship five times and Tagtime Championship four times.

John Cena Joins Elite List

Cena is now the 25th WWE wrestler to be a Grand Slam Champion. The others are Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Kane, Chris Jericho, Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero, Rob Van Dam, Booker T, Jeff Hardy, Christian, Big Show, Edge, The Miz, Daniel Bryan, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, Kofi Kingston, Rey Mysterio, AJ Styles, Kevin Owens and Finn Balor. Now that’s an elite list.

The match vs Mysterio was Cena’s first match for the Intercontinental title. With the end of his farewell tour just around the corner, he won the title that was missing from his tally. Now he has the complete set. The future Hall of Famer has made his mark before calling it a day.

John Cena’s Farewell

The farewell of Cena will take place on December 13 but his opponent is yet to be chosen. The tournament to decide that has begun on November 10 and shall be held throughout the month to finalise who takes Cena on the ring for the final time. Whoever gets that honour, shall remember the experience regardless of the result.

Damian Priest, Rusev, Sheamus, Shinsuke Nakamura, The Miz, Jey Uso, LA Knight, Je’Von Evans, Gunther and Solo Sikoa have been finalised to compete so far. Rusev has made it to the quarters.

Closure for John Cena Fans

For Cena fans, this was the much-needed closure that many did not realise they even needed. The missing piece of the puzzle fell into place. Cena has achieved so much but this was even more than that. To be on an elite list of Grand Slam Champions only enhances his greatness.

Cena fans may no longer see him in the ring but they can see him on the big and small screens as he continues his career in films and series. Now he has even more time to do so meaning fans can expect a higher frequency of performances.
